Goal of subject
To enable the students to learn the basics of the most commonly used surveillance radar systems in order to acquire knowledge about the principles of radar operation.
Learning outcomes of the subject
After the completion of the course the students will:
1. understand the operation of radars;
2. know about the common parameters of radars;
3. recognize and differentiate between the radar antennas;
4. know the major modes of radar signals processing;
5. be able to perform the spectral analysis of radar signals;
6. be able to perform decibel calculations;
7. be able to comprehend and use the radar range equation.
Subject course description
The course delves into the following topics: radar fundamentals and radar functioning; radar range equation; automatic target recognition; the Doppler Effect; spread spectrum radar applications; radar signal processing; impulse compression; classification of radar systems; continuous wave radar and impulse radar + their operating principles; radar structures (structural schemes)and technical parameters of radars (radar beacons); modern radars and radar genealogy; primary and secondary radars; some commonly used radar antennas and their operational principles; determination of radar potentials.
