Learning outcomes

The student having passed the Master’s Studies programme:
• has in-depth knowledge of aviation safety, its systematic administration, of risk evaluation and study methods;
• has mastered the theoretical fundamentals of the field of aviation;
• knows the theoretical foundations of safety ensuring, connecting them with the current problems in the society and in aviation;
• presents and explains orally and in writing speciality specific problems, and participates in respective discussions both in Estonian and English;
• independently and creatively solves the problems set, making use of aviation related knowledge in other fields of transport;
• chooses the most appropriate methods for systemic safety management, models and critically evaluates the possible consequences;
• applies the acquired knowledge of safety management in research work;
• evaluates their own and other people’s necessity for in-service training and is able to spread the knowledge of safety management through teaching and supervising;
• knows the characteristic features and importance of team work, and implementing their initiative is capable of leading a team;
• has an advanced sense of responsibility for speciality related activities;
• is aware of the ethic aspects, opportunities and limitations on their activities and their role in society.

Short description of the structure of the curriculum

The curriculum modules: 1) Basic Aviation Studies (30 ECTS credits), 2) Basic Studies in Human Factors and System Safety (36 ECTS credits), 3) Speciality Studies in Human Factors and System Safety (24 ECTS credits), 4) Master's Thesis (30 ECTS credits).

Opportunities and preconditions for choosing electives

In the first module the student shall have the right to choose electives within the scope of 3 ECTS credits, in the second module 12 ECTS credits.

Requirements for completing studies

To complete the curriculum the student has to pass the subject courses and training practices to the full extent and defend the Master's Thesis on a positive grade.
