| The primary aim of the course is to improve the students’ competence in spoken English, develop their listening skills and extend their knowledge of vocabulary relating to aviation. The course also aims at improving the students’ reading and writing skills and providing grammar practice. |

The student:
• has acquired vocabulary related to different flights, environmental phenomena, incidents with aircraft, problems with passengers as well as pilots and is able to use those words/phrases in practice;
• can express him-/herself confidently in an interview situation and participate in discussions on aviation-related topics;
• has improved his/her listening, reading and writing skills
• is able to make grammatically correct utterances |

| During the course the students cover the topics that meet the ICAO requirements on language proficiency for air traffic controllers. Mostly the course focuses on extending and reinforcing the speciality specific vocabulary concerning different types of flights, environmental phenomena, incidents with aircraft and problems with passengers as well as pilots. In order to develop their fluency of speaking, the students practise describing aviation-related photos, do pair and group work, hold group discussions on the topics covered in the lectures, make a presentation and short summaries of the articles they have read and videos watched. Moreover, the students do different listening tasks, including listening to authentic recordings, to develop their listening skills. The students also read different aviation-related articles, write short descriptions, make notes in lectures and do some grammar practice. |
