Subject 'Speciality English Language I'Name in Estonian: Erialane inglise keel I
Subject course descriptionThe course is taught by two lecturers - Ere Saar and Ivar Mathisen.
During Ere Saar's lectures the topics that meet the ICAO requirements on language proficiency for pilots are covered. Mostly the lessons focus on extending and reinforcing the speciality specific vocabulary concerning different types of flights, environmental phenomena, incidents with aircraft and problems with passengers as well as pilots. In order to develop their fluency of speaking, the students practise describing aviation-related photos, do pair and group work, hold group discussions on the topics covered in the lectures, make a presentation and short summaries of the articles they have read and videos watched. Moreover, the students do different listening tasks, including listening to authentic recordings, to develop their listening skills. The students also read different aviation-related articles, write short descriptions, make notes in lectures and do some grammar practice. Ivar Mathisen teaches how to use aircraft-specific Pilot Operating Handbook/Flight Manual. During lessons the students learn vocabulary specific to C-172, its parts, performance and systems.
