Õppeaine 'Erialane inglise keel I'

Suurendada üliõpilaste erialase inglise keele sõnavara ja terminoloogiat, arendada selle kasutamisoskust nii kõnes kui kirjas.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
1)on omandanud oma eriala põhisõnavara ja -terminoloogia inglise keeles ja oskab seda korrektselt kasutada kõnes ja kirjas;
2)suudab lugeda erialast kirjandust inglise keeles ja saab täpselt aru kirjutatu sisust;
3)suudab kirjutada inglise keeles seletusi erialastel teemadel;
4)oskab vestelda inglise keeles tehnilistel teemadel.

The course is taught by two lecturers - Ivar Mathisen and Ere Saar. During Ere Saar's lectures the students cover the topics that meet the ICAO requirements on language proficiency for pilots. Mostly the lessons focus on extending and reinforcing the speciality specific vocabulary concerning different flights, environmental phenomena, incidents with aircraft and problems with passengers as well as pilots. In order to develop their fluency of speaking, the students practise describing aviation-related photos, make a presentation and hold discussions on the topics covered in the lectures. Moreover, the students do different listening tasks including listening to authentic recordings to develop their listening skills. The students also read different aviation-related articles and do some grammar practice.
Ivar Mathisen teaches how to use aircraft-specific Pilot Operating Handbook/Flight Manual. During lessons students learn vocabulary specific to C-172, its parts, performance and systems. The students have to find answers to problems using the POH.
